~ YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS BOOK ~
Life Changing
The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn

How to get fit and healthy despite your best intentions.
Great for Beginner and Intermediate RunnersI consider myself an intermediate runner - I'm currently up to 20 miles/week and have never run a race of greater than 5 miles.
I found this book to be a great inspirational tool as well as a valuable reference. I'm flirting with the idea of running a marathon and will certainly use Coach Glover's training program if I do. The best thing that I found was that the book is *readable* - so many self-help and non-fiction books seem like they were written to increase sales at Starbuck's.
Since October, 2000, I've been logging my running (and recently weight) in an Excel spreadsheet where I also graph certain key statistics (total miles over a running seven day period and average minutes/mile over the same period). A number of people who know about this think that I'm insane (or a geek). Coach Glover recommends keeping a diary (though he doesn't address graphing), confirming my sanity (or his geekiness).
Helps any runner run smarter, betterWrong! The Runner's Handbook really spells out great advice for advanced runners or those just starting to run road races. The Runner's Handbook is packed with lots of great general information on running, injuries, diet and more.
I came to rely on the comprehensive training schedules and benchmark times for every commonly raced distance from the mile to the marathon that Bob Glover included in his book. This is how I came to learn why I wasn't as good (proportionally) at the 5k as I was at a marathon. It's a different training regimen, a different mind-set, and after reading this book it's easy to understand and correct.
When I really want to get motivated, I flip back to the Race Predictor appendix, calculate how fast I should be running, and set new goals for myself. Any runner of any ability who wants wants to set new goals (and what runner doesn't)should look to this book as *the* tool.

Velveteen Rabbit story good for parents and children(And I'm not going to tell you the end hahahahaha!!!)
It was great having that read to me, while I was hugging my stuffed animals in bed.
But -- in a way, at first glance it looks like a simple story, but it is actually a surprisingly complex story. Leave it on your child's bookshelf as he/she grows up and he/she will reread it again and again as he/she questions issues such as "who am I?", "what does it mean to be 'real'"?, "what is my role in this world?", and even "what is death"?
It's wonderful every time I read it!
An extremely touching book

Not another superstars cookbook...The sections on equipment and pantry stocking were great for a person with very little experience cooking, but readers with advanced knowledge will find them a boring read. I recommend skimming that section if you have more than a working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food stuffs. I understand the need for these sections in almost every chefs cookbook, but after you've seen one, you've seen them all.
This is a very attractive book. The photography and food styling are fantastic. If you just want to look at pictures this is the wrong book for you. Pick up one of Charlie Trotter's books if you want to see some truly uncookable stuff. This is a more usable cookbook than all of Trotter's books combined. All of the ingredients are available in most major cities and won't require all of your pans and most of your paycheck. The recipes are very doable.
This book should be in every kitchen! (For all levels)
It is about time!

Great for Teachers to Use For A Thematic UnitI teach children with mild to moderate specific learning disabilities who need to regularly experience success in reading if they are ever going to become lifelong readers. What better way to foster desired literacy behaviors than using this delightful tale of an absentminded housepainter, his tidy, yet serious wife, their two children, and 12 performing penguins!
After reading this book, I thought that it would be ideal to use as the focus of a thematic unit on penguins. Believe it or not, there are many themes in the book that lend themselves to serious classroom discussion. For example, Mr. Popper daydreams of far-away places. There is the theme of daydreaming, why people daydream, as well as the theme of travel. Students could be asked to journal about their daydreams, as well as their hopes and dreams of visiting faraway places, which leads into a study of the geography and culture of other people.
In my 6th grade language arts class, I plan on focusing on the 17 different types of penguins there are, where they are found, some of their habits, as well as studying about polar exploration. Thanks to this timeless tale, I have a wealth information to use for exploration with my own class.
Mr. Popper's Penguins is a wonderful example of how a well written trade book can be used across the curriculum, to foster lifelong literacy habits, and broaden a child's horizon.
